When you go to buy food, equipment, or supplies are you buying or shopping online? Or are you remaining loyal to local vendors? How competitive price-wise does the local vendor need to be to keep your business?

I do both. I use on line to see what is out there new and exciting. I try to support the local economy and buy local products from local companies as much as possible. Here is what we are doing in August.

Just to let you know, I retired at the end of May. In regards to your questions, I did shop the
web for small wares typically under $1000. Most items between $1000 – $3000, I would request
quotes from our local suppliers, i.e. US Foodservice, Restaurant Source, Standard Equipment, United Restaurant Supply. I think if local suppliers would send out either paper or web based specials it may keep our interest up with local retailers.

I do purchase seafood online once in a while. Other food is purchased locally. Restaurant equipment-I always search online for the best possible price. I do try to build and maintain all the relationships I have with vendors. Today, with the economy the way it is, pricing is always a major factor.

We stay loyal to the vendors we have been
associated with for years.

With our buying power our local vendors continue to be very price competitive and many have expanded their inventories in recent years so that we no longer find it necessary to look elsewhere. I would say we do less than 5% of our shopping on line.

I stay local

I like to touch feel and look to see what’s on special so I never purchase online. I believe the three large chains and four Big Box operations in our market keep each other in line with pricing.

I work for a casino and therefore have to follow regulations set by the
Gaming Commission. All purchases are from vendors licensed through the
Gaming Commission.
